BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhua) -- China´s Work Safety Committee Office of the State Council warned in a report Thursday that problems remain in the nationwide workplace safety check system and in resolving work safety problems.

In the report, the Office called for more thorough inspections and more enterprises to be involved in safety checks, as only 958,000 industrial and mining enterprises had received their safety checks during the second quarter of 2010, which remains far below the total number of businesses to be checked in the industry.

Further, more attention should be paid to solving work safety problems, said the report, as only 72.4 percent of the major workplace safety loopholes in key industries had been fixed by the end of June of this year, including in mining and transportation.

The report also pointed out that some local governments and enterprises failed to take safety issues seriously, which led to a lack of monitoring and risk prevention activities, eventually causing workplace accidents.

A total of 3.25 million Chinese enterprises received workplace safety checkups in the first half of this year, with 4.67 million safety loopholes being weeded out, 94.6 percent of which were fixed, according to the report.
